State of the Realm Q2 2020 Update Coming Soon!
almost 4 years ago – Mon, Jul 06, 2020 at 07:16:04 PM

A very quick update to note that the IGS "State of the Realm" update for Q2 2020 will be coming shortly.  It's a bit overdue, as with July we're now technically into Q3, but I've been wanting to complete work on the Bestiary books, as well as to get some finalized artwork commissions from artists new and old, to provide a more well-rounded picture of things.

So much has happened so far in 2019 and 2020, between the much-longer-than-anticipated-to-lay-out Bestiary books, and of course the global pandemic, that my targets and estimates for most things in the pipeline are completely shot, and I'd like to provide an honest, updated sense of where things stand and what I'm working on, when.

As part of the State of the Realm, I'll be providing an updated estimate for all outstanding work.

So stay tuned... and as always, thank you for your patience and support!

Quick Production Update
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Jun 30, 2020 at 04:30:02 PM

Hi folks... nothing but good news to report today.

ABRE Progress

Volume 6 for 5E and P2E is nearly complete.  It will be finished and published next week.  That's an enormous obstacle out of the way for those focused on things later in the pipeline, such as the Conversion Guide.

Conversion Guide Progress

The log has now passed 4,500 special abilities, attacks, and qualities.  Each has been converted from Pathfinder into 5E and P2E formats, so it's easy to translate between the three rules systems.  In a few days, it will cover every single creature ability across every single one of the 1,600 monsters published for Pathfinder.

New!  Bonus Conversion Content... Maybe

You may have seen that a few weeks ago, I created and published Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm for Dungeon Crawl Classics, Sample Monsters.  It was premature, because I failed to thoroughly investigate the licensing requirements, and then did not do what I needed to do to use the trademark.  So that's why it's been taken down from DTRPG for the time being.

A long-winded way of saying: I'm in discussions with Goodman Games now about what I have in mind.  If I'm able to secure a licensing agreement, then my plan is to have Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm for Dungeon Crawl Classics, produced as part of the conversion of ABRE to the OSR format.  Zero additional impact to the pipeline timeline; I have already done a proof-of-concept that demonstrates that I can produce it at no additional time cost.

Also, to produce the quickie Sample Monsters for DCC, I produced a heuristic for converting monsters from P1E format into DCC format.  Annnnd, it's automated, so 90%+ of the work of converting things into DCC is already completed.

So what does that mean for Conversion folks?  It means that if all of the above happens, then the Monster & Content Conversion Guide will not only cover P1E, P2E, 5E, and OSR... but also DCC too!  For no additional cost to those who have pledged.

So net/net, I cannot promise anything because it's premature... but I'm super psyched and optimistic.

Conversion: Production Update Clarification
almost 4 years ago – Sun, Jun 14, 2020 at 08:33:42 PM

Hi folks.  At least one backer posed a good question recently, and rereading my updates, I'm not sure I've accurately described the enormity of what has already been accomplished.

To clarify, the monster abilities that I've been reporting fun milestones about (1,000, 2,000, and most recently, 4,000!) are those that have been converted are from Pathfinder 1e, INTO the other rules systems.

So, basically, there's a 4,000+ line mapping table that shows every creature ability from each of 1,600 monsters from across all published Pathfinder 1e materials, and an equivalent rules-appropriate version of each of those for the other rules systems.  I must admit that the table is much, MUCH larger than anticipated, so I'm considering various methods of how best to present that much information in a printed-out or PDF table format, but the work itself is nearing completion and will be complete by the end of the month alongside the completion of Volume 6 of Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm for 5E/P2E.

As context, IGS' approach has always been to create content designed for PFRPG, and then where necessary to convert it into other supported rules systems.  The main reason for this is that of the popular systems we support, PFRPG is by far the most complex and intricate, so typically it's much easier to convert from PFRPG into other systems.

So, anyway... hope that clarifies!

Production Update: 4k Milestone
almost 4 years ago – Fri, Jun 12, 2020 at 05:54:06 PM

Hi all!  As work continues on finishing the Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm books (volume 6 underway, 20% complete, on target to finish this month), I've continued in parallel converting creature abilities and spells and spell effects from PFRPG into the other rules formats supported by the Conversion Guide.

We just hit 4,000 abilities converted.  Should be quite a tome when it's finished!

Thanks again for your patience and support.

ABRE Volume 5 for 5E/P2E Completed, Fulfilled, & Published!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jun 03, 2020 at 03:10:00 AM

Publication Day!

A quick note that Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm (ABRE), Volume 5, for 5E and Pathfinder Second Edition, has been completed.

If you're entitled to either or both of these, you should already have received a complimentary copy notification from DriveThruRPG.

I'm on target to complete the final Volume 6 by the end of June.  So, not where I'd wanted to be ideally, but I've been consistently churning out around 1,100 pages of content a month, and I expect that to continue through the summer for sure so I can get caught up with committed work.

Thank you again to all of those who have been patiently waiting for what they're entitled to.
